I use a similar method. If you go to my website (still under construction) and look at the one tutorial, it's spelled out step by step with pictures of the process.

Quick question about using grid, does anyone have a suggestion on drawing a picture thats bigger then drawing paper using a grid system.

The grid shouldn't be hard to replicate on paper larger than printer size. Just tape two or more pieces of printer paper together and be careful to line it up carefully when taping them. Use Photoshop or a similar program to impose the same grid over your original image after you've resized it to the dimensions you want. You don't even have to print it out.
