2008 Detroit Half Marathon

Yep, it's that time of year again! This year I did the half marathon instead of the full thing, thought I would try something new in my third time round! Unfortunately I was sick and my Halls cough drop only lasted 3 miles, but it was a perfect day! My results are below and so is a post-race picture for everyone to laugh at/photo-manipulate. I've never been drunk or high, but I imagine that's how I'd look if I was ever under the influence. There may or may not be a couple of extremely shaky pictures taken during the race by my sister to follow.

Race Distance: 13.1 miles (21.1km)

Graham Beatty #16610
Windsor, Ontario
Age: 21 Gender: M
Distance: Half Marathon
Chip Time: 1:34:21
Overall Place: 130th (8435 total runners)
Gender Place: 112th (3814 male runners total)
Division (M 20-29) Place: 14th (225 males 20-29 total)

My goal for next year's half is top 10 in my age division (14th this year) and a sub- 1:30 time (1 hour 34 minutes 21 seconds this year). This was my first half marathon.

That's pretty good,I think in H.S. I ran the mile in about 30 min.(had to take
a cigarette break at the other end of the track every lap,I quit smoking!).
Congrats and kudos to place 130th out of 8435 runners is quite a feat!!

If this picture was taken after the marathon, how come you don't look sweaty OR sick, for that matter?

Well, the sweat dries and the salt in it gets all crusty. Maybe you can't see it in the picture, but there were white, salty sweat marks all over me. Look at my eyes... that's what I look like when I'm tired and sick! Should take a video of me coughing for an hour nonstop too! This picture was taken about 45 minutes after the race finished and my parents drove me back across the bridge into Windsor. The other pictures (me at the finish) are on my mom's camera and I don't have them yet.

I should mention that both the marathon and half marathon start in Detroit, then cross the Ambassador Bridge into Windsor (Canada), then cross back through the Windsor Tunnel under the Detroit River into Detroit again. It's the only marathon/half marathon in the world with an underwater mile... pretty cool!

Nope, no swimming at all! You run under the river through the Detroit Tunnel. A race where you run and bike is called a duathlon, never heard of a swim/run race!

I'm not wearing the tight fitting attire on my derriere! Well actually I am, but I've got it covered up with some respectable shorts!
