New 2 the Site :)

Hey everyone! I found this site a couple days ago and after reading a lot of forums, I decided to join. Everyone on here seems very nice and helpful about the work people do. :D There are a lot of talented people on here so I want to upload some of my drawings. I have been drawing since I was little off and on but just in the past couple months, I started taking it serious for some reason and now I have a true passion for it. I'm not that good so I would love some feedback on how I can improve. I see a lot of people having problems with posting a picture onto their topics and I will probably be one of them so if I don't get it to post, I hope someone will help. This is my 1st portrait I've ever drawn. This was done before I studied anything about pencils (H,B,F), blending stumps, tecniques, etc..

Hello what I was told to do to get images up was upload them to imgur.com, it will then show you lots of urls and you need to copy the one that says 'message boards' that should work. Looking forward to seeing your work!

Re: New 2 the Site :)

This is the 2nd portrait I did a couple weeks ago. I kept on wondering why I couldn't get the shadows and tones right of the skin. I didn't like this to much but the customer appreciated it so I'm glad about that..

Re: New 2 the Site :)

Sorted! The drawing looks very good, I am probably not the best to give you any advice but for your first portrait it is very impressive. One thing I like in my work is a large range of tone, e.g. dark darks and light lights, but this is only a personal preference. You seem to have captured the person very well. (obviously I don't know how accurate it is though)

Really nice picture, if that is your first I can not wait to see what your portraits are like after more experience!

Just seen your second drawing and that looks good to. It is hard to say how accurate they are though.

Re: New 2 the Site :)

After going on Google and studying a little bit about tecniques, I was able to make the next one a tiny bit better..

Re: New 2 the Site :)

Thanks :D That is the same way I think about the tones. I was getting adgitated when I was drawing the 1st two so that's when I decided to study a little about it. I'm glad I did b/c I have learned a lot in the past few weeks. I am on my 4th portrait now and I was able to apply a lot of new tecniques to it. I will post a pic of that one when I am done..Should be some time this week.

Craig, that's some good Artwork there mate.As Alasdair said, practice, and read tutorials, don't be afraid to get darker tones down and use tissue, face pads or cloth to blend in those baby skin-tones.
