Goody 2nd attempt

sorry guys but i'm back already (seem to have a drawing obession) right i'm not happy with this but i'm posting for advice. Literaly Just finsihed this - not happy at all and nearly gave up before completeing.
method:-
For this i used the grid method for the first time ever. i drew a 1" grid on the reference photo (print off google search). starting at the base of the nose for some reason. still the proportions are off tho. but i drew the outline quicker. started last night and finished tonight.
I could'nt get myself away from the 2H for outlining
here is where i stopped last night.
i was really stuck on what to do for the black hair - on the side you can see i added a few srokes of charcol but then stopped, panicking about it being messy and also looking flat.

Re: Goody 2nd attempt

tonights photo,
for some reason i decided to try a carbon pencil for the hair? any comments appreciated.
the darkest pencil I have is 4B which didnt feel dark enough for this drawing.
tried blending with a cotton bud for the first time (no fingers)

Please feel free let rip with your comments, particularly on the methods.

I blended out the jacket with a cotton bud - how do you create a blur/soft focus?
thanks for looking

Re: Goody 2nd attempt

not a bad go at it.
keep in mind that highlights are just as important as shadeing and shadows. sometimes easiest way to achive this is with sharp edged erasers. i took a cheepo pink eraser and cut it in odd ball wedges .that helps for sharp highligths, hair, teeth ect.
alot of it is just practice. trying new things and keeping a open mind.

with my head firmly in the clouds, i let my pencils sing and dance.

Goody, you're doing fine,it's all a learning curve.Just try different methods whilst you are drawing, don't press too hard..if you do something wrong then the eraser will sort it out.Relax.
