An interesting face

Progress of a random and interesting face found on the net. The beard will be testing...

Re: An interesting face

This is a challenging draft, but your start looks superb! :D

I will have to draw a beard too....i am not looking forward to this...... i needed a long time to draw passable hair, so this is probably not going to be easy for me.
Did you draw a beard before?

Re: An interesting face

Thanks! :D

I've drawn stubble, but dark stubble. White hairs are more of a challenge. I've been thinking about it and practising with erasers etc. It will be good fun trying.

Re: An interesting face

Mark, great start, are you intending not to blend, seems a good choice if you can master the mechanical pencils,My latest drawing..have been trying to do less blending,I'm starting to think it's not always that important.
Thoughts please mate.

Re: An interesting face

Thanks Russ and Carl.

Russ - for what it's worth I try not to blend if I can. If you're working on something very finely detailed and are trying to reproduce a photorealistic copy, you want to keep it as sharp and as crisp as possible. Blending will dilute this.

However, I do occasionally blend with cotton buds if its a larger area of light, even tone or where tones progressively change to light or dark. I did buy a blending stump to experiment with but have hardly used it.

Personally, I think the less belnding you need to do on a piece, the better. But it is dependent on your style of course. I think I read that Armin Merrsman hardly ever blends and the results are there to see.
