Re: Steve Yzerman Commission- CP WIP

The skyline idea is still within reason if it's done as a silhouette. No windows.
I doubt the customer would go for a Canadian Maple leaf if he doesn't want Yzerman wearing the team Canada jersey.
Wings logo would be a plus.

Re: Steve Yzerman Commission- CP WIP

The customer is a Canadian, but he specifically asked for Yzerman in his Wings jersey, so like Tom said, I'm staying away from his Team Canada affiliation (boohoo!) I'll see what I can do with the skyline. This might be where my drafting board comes in really handy.

Looks like the area where I went to college.

Re: Steve Yzerman Commission- CP WIP

From Windsor you can frequently see plumes of dark smoke rising up from Detroit. When you drive through and see all of the burned-out houses and businesses you realize what the source of the smoke is. When the wind blows from the Northwest you can smell it.

I just looked at the census of total population for Detroit. Some highlights:

1900: 285,704
1950: 1,849,568 (peak population)
1990: 1,027,974
2000: 951,270
2010: 713,777

The city has shrunk to roughly the same size as it was in 1915. Close to 240,000 people have left in the last 10 years. Looks like a mass exodus.

Here's my latest stab at the layout, background image courtesy of Tom's sleuthing skills:

Re: Steve Yzerman Commission- CP WIP

I'm not thinking about doing a photo-realistic attempt at the background with every single window and minor shadow. Not sure what exactly it will look like, I'll just see how it goes. I'm also still considering the night shot I originally posted, the customer said he likes it and I'm very partial to it.

Re: Steve Yzerman Commission- CP WIP

Here's a couple of more hours of work. I played with the skin tone a bit to add some more brown and pink to it. I'm not done with the facial hair or jawline yet and the mouth still needs tweaking. If you guys see anything that sticks out as being "off" lemme know!

Re: Steve Yzerman Commission- CP WIP

This place is so quiet it's depressing. About 6.5 hours of work so far. You can really tell how the ambient light affects the colour of the image. My last WIP was photographed inside at night with all fake light, this one (and the first one) outside in direct sunlight.

I just mean in general. Most of the art being posted is by new members who'll last 10 or fewer posts and disappear. There's no community atmosphere.
