Beginner

So i post here my first portraits what i have done.
1. This is my girlfriend and this portrait is also my very first. Hair is really bad, and its too light.

2. This is my sister. This one is scanned but looks so over lighted. In real its much darker.

Right now i'm working on one portrait what comes out(im pretty sure)the best so far from me. Hair is on hard thing for me at the moment, but i will practise and get over it. I'll post later pics about it.
There are so many good artists in here so i hope i get some good pointers.
criticism is more than welcome!

Re: Beginner

Hello Raks. I think it looks great, but don't be afraid to use a bit more darkness in your portraits. By making it darker it gives the portrait more depth and it becomes more realistic :) But it is a great start I think! Keep up the good work! :)

Btw. misread the bit about the scanner making it lighter, sorry. I also think the hair on the latest drawing is really good!

Re: Beginner

Can't get that clean dark look with graphite pencils, and i don't have charcoal too. I'm going to order J.D. Hillberry's Primo drawing kit. There's some good stuff what i can use to make it more realistic. But, i think i have to just practice a lot.

Re: Beginner

I can definitely see improvement from the 1st one to the third one. This just shows you are getting better with each drawing you do. Just imagine what your 20th post will be like on here. ! Good job !

Your girlfriend has nice eyes aswell

Re: Beginner

Well, i have one question. Many people have asked me to do a portrait for them and they will pay me. I'm thinking like yeeees, i can earn money by drawing which i really love. My vision is that i will do portraits to people for money in future. BUT at this point, how much money i should ask :o ?

And of course u can check my finished pic and tell me whats wrong, and what is should change in future.

Cheers.

Re: Beginner

A fair price to some is a not a fair price to others.
Some people charge by the hour, so charge what you want to earn per hour.
Some charge per square inch of drawing $1.50 per inch $2.00...etc

but being realistic, you will NOT make a living at this game without some serious hard work, dedication and (I believe) some luck.
I suggest doing it as an enjoyable hobby, and if you make it to the big time great.

Keep going as you are, your showing great potential.
Looking forward to seeing more from you. :)

Re: Beginner

Yeah, actually i meant that, i want to draw for money as a hobby not as a primary job. Its just hard to express myself with the right words because English is not my everyday language, so sorry.
And i hope i can begin one drawing today. Lately have watched lots of tutorials, mainly 5penchilmethod. I really like what he's doing so i hope i could use some of he's technique on my drawing. I don't know is it a bad thing or not ,but i don't have a good paper to use, i have to buy one. Basically I'm using like a copy paper just a little thicker.

Re: Beginner

Darrel Tank has a good technique, he is a good teacher.
I am on his site too: http://www.fivepencilmethodcommunity.com/profile/LarcRomeo
I would suggest getting better paper, but it doesn't have to be expensive, the cheaper of the Bristol boards will do.
