The sad thing is that almost all this spam could be easily stopped by going back to the old method of signing up.
Just a jpeg of a number that never changes, and asking people to type that, in would probably stop all these bots.

We could have a jpeg of a word separated by periods like D.R.A.W.
The people signing up for the forum could type something like that in.
I don't think too many dictionaries will have a word separated by periods.
It's worth a try. I can't imagine it making things worse than it is now.
