Crowd Pleaser

This is my sunset in chalk pastels. I wanted to start with something easy to get used to the way the pastels draw. It's really difficult to get any details with them. I wanted to know, the people here that post portraits and whatnot, are you using pencils, or what? Let me know what you think of my picture, and any advice. I used a digital camera to get it onto the computer.

This is only the third time I've ever picked up pastels.

*side note* I'm having a ton of trouble with image shack. Is anyone else having trouble with them lately?

reminds me of a bob ross! You should try to do one of these (sunsets) in oil paints. They are so easy to do in oil and always look great. I love this one in pastel though...looks cool. I've never used pastels before but may attempt to in the future. Your sky reminds me of the sky in The Scream by Munch. So its kinda like a bob ross/edvard munch type landscape!:D

I use a mixture of PanPastels, soft pastels and pencil pastels when i work on portraits. I use the PanPastels to build up tone and layer the faces, then the soft pastels to create the depth, and the pencil pastels to place detail
